Information for Prospective Students

If you are currently an Oregon State University undergraduate or graduate student and would like to talk about algorithms or theoretical computer science, stop by my office!  If my door is open, I’m happy to chat.

If you are not currently registered as a student at Oregon State University, please see here for information on the application process.  If you would like  to work with me:

  • email me,
  • tell me why you would like to study algorithms (perhaps even describing your favourite algorithm), and
  • indicate the algorithms and mathematics classes you have taken.

If you are ready to apply for graduate admission at Oregon State University and wish to work with me, please:

  • list my name as a potential mentor
  • state your interest in working with me in your personal statement
  • check “Algorithms” as your research interest area

Note that you need not show exclusive interest in working with me.  In fact, it is to your benefit to select a few (but not too many!) potential mentors.  Research at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University is highly collaborative, including my own.  I will expect my students to apply algorithmic techniques to an application area (at least theoretically).
